■Our Lady of the Lighthouse Trappist Monastery
he official name is Our Lady of the Lighthouse Trappist (Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance) Monastery. In 1896, nine monks visited here from France and founded the first male Trappist Monastery in Japan. Trappist butter or cookies are famous, and rich taste corn cream made of the butter is a popular food.
■ Experience-based sightseeing
A lot of experience-based menus are available, where you can enjoy picking fruits or vegetables. Also you can enjoy fresh taste of those fruits or vegetables in the view of fantastic nature.
■ Hot spring (onsen) facility
There are three casual style hot springs in the city. How about relaxing yourself to recover from the fatigue of your journey. (Seseragi Onsen, Shinwa no yu, Nanaehama no yu)
■ Hachirounuma
Park with a full of flowers, i.e. cherry blossom, azalea, water lily, followed by kobushi magnolia in early spring. In autumn, the park is known for the popular spot of autumn color of leaves. Also, a park golf course and are located next to the park.
■ Hekirichi Jinya Ruins of Matsumae Clan
Hekirichi Jinya is the first western style castle ruin in Japan which was built in the end of Edo Period. It is currently managed as a national designated cultural asset.
■ Moheji River
Because a shallow river with relatively clear water, In the downstream area nearby 'Sakemi Bridge,' you can see large salmon run from the beginning of October to the middle of November.
■ Birthplace of paddy
Birthplace of paddy：The place, located in the watershed of Fumizuki River, a tributary of Ono River, and used to be called 'Oshiage,' is known for 'a birthplace of paddy in Hokkaido' and a memorial statue was built in 1949.
＜Zushihokki＞
An official character of Hokuto city as well as a chief of promoting tourism of the city.
The character is based on their specialty products, "Hokki sushi,"made of hokki (surf clam) and rice."You can see the character here and there in the city.
Hokuto city, located in the south of Hokkaido and next to Hakodate city, is a town surrounded by sea and mountain with rich of nature. Also, Hokkaido Shinkansen was opened in March 2016, and "Shin Hakodate Hokuto Station" became a starting station of the line.
Thanks to the new terminal station toward to any direction in Hokkaido, you can easily go travelling to Hakodate, Onuma, Esashi and Kikonai to see landmarks of those cities.

Hokuto city is one of the best spot for cherry blossoms in South Hokkaido.
Every year, cherry blossoms bloom from the end of April to the beginning of May, and a lot of people visit here for "Hanami."
During the season, you can also enjoy the fantasy of illuminated cherry blossoms at night.

Kijihiki Highland is the closest scenic spot from Shin Hakodate Hokuto Station (Hokkaido Shinkansen), where you can enjoy a fantastic view. It is a relaxing nature spot with a camping site.

Specialty local products of Hokuto city
Hokuto city has Ono Plain, an agricultural area, and Tsugaru Straits/Hakodate Bay where you can get a lot of seafood.
For specialties of farm products, "rice" from the birthplace of paddy in Hokkaido, "tomato" or "spring onion" which has one of the largest production volume in Hokkaido. For seafood, "surf clam," "Garou oyster" or "funori" are famous.
